En alchimie, l'albédo est la deuxième phase du magnum opus, suivant le nigredo, et précédant la citrinitas et le rubedo. Utilisé aussi dans la psychologie Jungian, ce terme latin signifie « blanchir ». Après le chaos ou massa confusa de le phase nigredo, l'alchimiste entreprend une purification en albédo, qui est littéralement appelée ablutio - le lavage des impuretés. Cette phase est caractérisée par la lumière et la clarté apportées à la prima materia (matériel personnel).

In alchemy, albedo is the second stage of the magnum opus, following nigredo, and preceding citrinitas and rubedo. Also, used in Jungian psychology, the latin term signifies "whitening". Following the chaos or massa confusa of the nigredo stage, the alchemist undertakes a purification in albedo, which is literally referred to as ablutio – the washing away of impurities. This phase is characterized by bringing light and clarity to the prima materia (personal material).
