L’atelier d’estampe Imago offre une bourse annuelle à un.e candidat.e qui a gradué.e du baccalauréat en arts visuels de Mount Allison University ou l'Université de Moncton dans les cinq dernières années. Cette bourse vise à encourager et appuyer les artistes estampiers de la relève en leur donnant l’occasion de continuer leur production artistique en estampe au Nouveau-Brunswick. 

Radiating Bodies (corps rayonnants) explore le lien entre le corps, l’astronomie et la cosmologie mythique; des croyances basées sur des propositions scientifiques et non scientifiques à l’origine des premières théories cosmologiques.

Il existe un grand écart dans notre compréhension de l’univers malgré certaines déductions fournies par le raisonnement scientifique. La profonde étendue de l’espace est remplie de mystère dont certains mythologise, mais dont peu ne peuvent explorer physiquement. Ce projet vise à superposer l’information subjective (contes, mythes, rapports personnels avec les étoiles) avec la documentation de l’information scientifique tout en interrogeant la dichotomie de ses modes de pensées en soulignant leurs similitudes.

L’artiste tient à souligner l’appui de la Bourse Imago et le programme de création d’ArtsNB.

Rachel M Thornton de Carp, On, est une artiste de la relève qui travaille présentement à Sackville, NB. Son travail examine des éléments de la mythologie, de la magie et le conte à travers différents médiums. Son travail vise à communiquer l’émerveillement du conte avec des nuances de force féministe et l’autonomisation personnelle. Elle est présentement dans un programme de maîtrise à travers l’University of the Creative Arts, Farnham, UK.

Imago Artist-run print studio offers an annual bursary to a candidate who has earned their Bachelors in Fine Arts from Mount Allison University or l’Université de Moncton within the past five years. This bursary enables young artists to continue their practice in contemporary printmaking in New-Brunswick. 

Radiating Bodies presents an exploration of the connection between the body, astronomy and mythological cosmology; beliefs based on early cosmological theories of scientific and non-scientific propositions.

Scientific reasoning has deduced answers for so much uncertainty previously felt in the world, but there is still a large gap in the human understanding of our own universe. The far-reaching expanse of space is still filled with mystery; which many people mythologize, but few have the chance to physically explore. Investigating how notions of magic are connected to and represented along side scientific hypotheses through myths about how the cosmos works, these works aim to overlap subjective information (stories, myths, personal connections to the stars) with scientific, fact based reasoning and documentation, questioning these dichotomous ways of thinking and highlighting their similarities.

Originally from Carp, ON, Rachel M Thornton is an emerging artist currently working in Sackville NB. Her practice explores themes of mythology, magic and the retelling of stories through varied media. Her work aims to transfer the wonder of storytelling with undertones of feminist strength and personal empowerment. She is currently an MA Fine Arts candidate through the University of the Creative Arts, Farnham, UK.
